Welcome To Alpha Omega
Odali, a native Brazilian, has been a pastor in Garca for over fifteen years, leading the Central Baptist Church of Garca. This church has planted 10 other mission churches in the surrounding area. A board of advisors serve to oversee the operations of Alpha Omega. His wife has also lived in Brazil her entire life (the daughter of a faithful missionary couple).
Several years ago their eyes were opened to the need that surrounded them when their son asked if a friend could share his lunch. They learned that this boy was living on the streets and had no where to go, no home to return to, no family to love him. What began that day as they took this small boy into their home has grown and expanded to a ministry that now touches the lives of dozens of children each and every day. It is impossible to define how many lives have been changed because of the faithfulness and obedience of this couple, nor is it possible to define the many ways God continues to use this ministry.
Alpha Omega exists for the purpose of reaching out and helping those that are nearest and dearest to the heart of God--children. At the home, children are accepted from government agencies as well as personal referrals. Each child receives food, shelter, clothing, and a new beginning. The home is sectioned off into five hallways, each hall having a set of hall parents and no more than twenty children.
In addition to meeting their basic needs, training in life skills is also provided. The facility incorporates a machine shop, carpentry shop, and farm into their over-all program. The children are also required to attend church services, and devotions are held either in each hall or corporately.
The purpose of this method is to instill in each child a sense of belonging to a family, while developing discipline, respect, and a sense of self-worth with Christ and His love as the basis.
OUR MINISTRIES
We are often asked what are all the ministries in which we are involved, well we finally decided to put them on paper. It is a hard question to answer considering all the many channels that have extended from the Alpha Omega Home and from Central Baptist Church. God has allowed us to use the resources you have helped provide to start and/or support the ministries that are detailed below. We have also include in each section a small bio of those who help in each ministry, and possible ways in which you can get involved through your prayers and support. We could never express how grateful we are for you faithfulness to God by supporting these ministries. We pray that God will continue to shower you with His unending blessings.
Mission Points
These are church plants that were started and/or are supported by your support and by members of Central Baptist Church. These churches still do not have the capability to support themselves.
Foz do Iguacu, Parana
Pastor Edson Monteiro and his wife Maria Jose are the leaders of this mission point. They have three children and dedicate their time and efforts to them and the community in which they serve. The youth ministry of Central Baptist Church has taken two very successful trips to Foz do Iguacu. They put on programs and helped out in the community. Central Baptist Church provides Pastor Edson's salary, and we send three hundred and fifty dollars per month for their rent. We also provided them a couple of used cars.
Ervalia, Minas Gerais
Pastor Celso and his wife are the leaders of this mission point. They have one little girl. We support them him with two hundred dollars per month. We also provided him with a van that has been used for taking children to church.
Please pray for his wife, she will be having thyroid surgery for the second time. The doctor said that there is a big chance that she will lose 90% of her voice.
Alvorada do Sul, Parana
Pastor Arthur and his wife Helena are leaders of this ministry. This mission point is one of the most recent ministries that we have helped start and support. We provided the materials for their church building and Central Baptist Church has taken several trips to help build it. The church building is still under construction.
Lupercio, Sao Paulo
Pastor Silvio and his wife Eliete are the leaders of this mission point. They have three beautiful daughters. They have been raising money to build on to the building they already have. His wife makes and sells bon-bons in order to help with the building expenses. We have provided them two used cars in different occasions.
Alvaro de Carvalho, Sao Paulo
Several leaders that serve in Alpha Omega help out with this church, Eliezer is in charge of it so we give him money to help with his needs and to pay for his gas to come and go each week. We also provided him with a vehicle. Every Sunday morning they get up early to have service for the children of Alvaro, and hold service again at night.
Vera Cruz, Sao Paulo
This mission point currently does not have a leader that lives in this community, so we have members from Central Baptist go and serve there each week. We help them with vehicles and gas as needed.
Julio Mesquita, Sao Paulo
Pastor Joao Paiva is the leader of this mission point; he has served here for a few years now. He grew up in Central Bapstist Church. The property had a weak building on it when we frst bought it. In the last few years we have demolished the old building and rebuilt a beautiful new one.
Lucienopolis, Sao Paulo
We sporadically take the youth from Central Baptist to Lucianopolis and hold services in the community's gymnasium.
Santa Tereza, Sao Paulo
Pastor Silvio from Lupercio holds weekly services in this city. We provided him with gas money to make the weekly commute.
Alvilandia, Sao Paulo
We do not have a local leader for this mission point so members from Central Baptist commute there weekly and hold services. Like Julio Mesquita, the building on the property was very weak and falling apart. We are currently working on a new building and hope to have it done soon
Conçeicão do Boninal, Bahia
We help this mission point with a monthly offering, and last July we gave them a small truck that we rebuilt here at the home. This church is in a very poor part of Brasil. We have been there before and are planning a trip there in January 2008. We don't go there very often because it is 1500 miles from here and there is no air transportation.
Alpha and Omega – Manaus
We have a second home that we started and support in northern Brasil, also know as Alpha Omega Home of Amazonas. Two young couples are running the home; Paulo and Brenda Monteiro along with Alexandre and Josie Artacho. Paulo and Brenda have 3 children, and the Artacho's have a little baby. AOA currently cares for 15 children and they have started producing fish to help with the expenses. However the endeavor is still new and AOA is still mainly supported by AO. Christmas and monthly needs are met by dividing support from AO. The Alpha and Omega of Garça provided the home in Manaus with a dump truck, tractor, front loader and all other small equipment used for maintaining the fish farm. All these things are sent from here. These things are too expensive to buy in Manaus so we prepared them and send them by road. Even with all the travel expenses it is still cheaper to send them from here. The home there owns a small car that was donated by a church in the US, everything else including food is bought by us or shipped from here.
Radio Program
Monday through Friday 8-8:30pm and Sunday morning 6-8am Pastor Odali along with a deacon from the church broadcast locally discussing events and telling others about Jesus. Pastor spends three hundred dollars per month for air time.
The Alpha and Omega Home
The most well known of our ministries is the Alpha Omega Home in Garca, where we reside. It has the most attention because of the nature of the work. It is a reality today that so many children and adolescents need help. This is a big part of our lives, but not at all the only ministry we have. Most people who come and visit come because of the children. Besides the caring for the kids every day needs, spiritual and material, we also care for their education. Our salary is shared with the teachers of the school. That is most all the salary goes to them. The amount that we give them is just a little help for them. It is not even half of what they should make. The school, "Centro Educational Alpha e Omega" ranges from preschool to 8th grade. We felt the need for the school because so many of the children that come are out of their grade levels. Most of them have either flunked or been out of school for 2 or 3 years. Having the school we can help them learn to read and write and get them caught up. Depending on each kid they can be tested and make up for the lost time.
At least once a year we sent our teachers to a Christian school conference. We also provide all the school material for the kids schooling. Since our curriculum is base on biblical principles much of lessons for classes are put together by us and copied on a copier.
We have several teens who have nowhere to go and have stayed to help out with the work. There are six of them that are in college. We pay for the tuition of four of the six.
The children have opportunities to get involved in several sports activities. We travel with them to cities near by to play soccer. We have had them involved and a few other sports such as tennis, volleyball, and basketball. We have a professional trainer that is here in the mornings and does training with the kids and also teaches Physical Education in our school.
We also do several mission trips to visit the churches we help. Some trips are done by adults and some are done by the youth groups. Other trips are mixed, youth and adults.
One of the newest ministries we have started is a supper held at church every 2 weeks. That helps bring people to the church that other wise would not come. We provide the food and one of the church members cooks it. Last Friday we had over 100 people for a fish dinner. About half of them were visitors.
As you can see, it takes lots of resources to keep all these things going. That is why it may sound like we are always in need. From now to the end of the year is always the hardest period. We ask that each of you pray for us and pray to see what God would have you to do. Would you consider having an Alpha and Omega Day at your church?
